Notes from ND05

Leesburg hosted the ND05 Mens/Ladies Doubles on Oct 31, 2024

Happy Halloween!   We had a good turnout for today’s tournament.  The men had 11 teams and the women had 9 teams.  Tom was our tournament director with assistance from Chris Inga.   This was our Bob Brandt Memorial Tournament, so our sponsors were the family and friends of Bob Brandt and Suter Air Conditioning.   Eleven shufflers came in costume and the photos are attached.  Thank you Ellie for judging the contest and thank you Gail for organizing the contest and providing the cute pumpkin prizes.  Joe Constantine had the scariest costume; Cindy Wonson had the funniest costume and Christine Giumarra won the most original costume.

Tom was most appreciated of the morning help with the courts from Al, Paul, Rick and Debi.  A special thank you to Izzy who stayed all day and took care of the kitchen and monies collected.  Pat and I did the 50/50 and we had two winners of $26 as well as winners for the breakfast Station restaurant,  BP Auto spa gift card and a beach bag and towel from Cebert Wealth Management.  We had plenty of food donations that is much appreciated.  Many favorable comments were given to the cherry dessert, but all foods were delicious and gratefully consumed.

We did have an issue that I need to address.  I know it was a hot day to shuffle even though we had a nice breeze while playing.  Everyone was tired but NO ONE stayed to help sweep any of the courts that were finished for the day’s play.  Therefore, no courts got swept and I guess tomorrow morning they will have to be blown off and the excess beads in the gutters cleaned up.  If finished Leesburg members could just have swept one court, the job would have been done.
