Attention All Shufflers

Please Note:

To All Board Members and Club Presidents,

The following dates have been set for three (3) mock tournaments to be held.  They are as follows:

  • Thursday, May 23, 2024 @ Leesburg Shuffleboard Club
  • Thursday, June 6, 2024 @ Mid-Florida Lakes Shuffleboard Club
  • Thursday, June 20, 2024 @ Deland Shuffleboard Club

This Initiative is intended to educational as well as fun.  There will be lessons for all to learn, from the Directors to the Player/Participants.  We hope that we get good participation for both Pros and Amateurs for these events.

The District will line up the Directors.  I encourage you to let your members know that if anyone is interested and would like to assist, they are more than welcome to learn and possibly consider in becoming an Assistant Director.  I will be supplying water or hydration for all.  Members to bring their own lunches, snacks just like they would be for any other tournaments.

These tournaments shall consist of the following:

  • These mock tournaments will be open to all Northern District Members
  • It shall be a Draw Type Tournament with registration start at 8:15 am and closing at 8:45 am. The Tournament to start by 9:00 am
  • It will be run just like any other tournament however there will be no fee attached.
  • There will be no Fee paid to the directors
  • Each Tournament will be limited to two matches only
  • Questions and answer shall be permit at these tournaments.  I will explain each day we hold the tournament.
  • There will be no first-place winners for either Main or Consolation.  Everyone automatically wins by participating in this endeavor.

Goals to be accomplished:

  • Directors to work together to set up any tournament as well as work out any potential issues that might arise during the process.
  • Lesson any mistakes that could potentially occur and when they do learn how to correct them going forward.
  • To enhance each tournament director’s skills and to help each other with the Registration Process as well as creating the draw cards, court assignments and charting.
  • Once players are assigned and playing all other participating Directors will monitor the playing and identify all potential rule violations that might be occurring.  This shall include what rule is being violated, potential penalty.  These potential violations will then be explained to the membership as they play their match.
  • Field any questions by all participating players
  • I anticipate this whole process to take about 4-5 hours.
  • Teach all Pros and Amateurs when applicable how to check discs to see if they are good or not as well as field other any questions they might have.

Please put this information out on your websites and Facebook Pages.

Looking forward to seeing you all there,

Joseph Inga, President                                                                                                                                                                                                           Northern District Shuffleboard Association

Masters Banquet 2024

Due to the second day of the Masters Tournament being cancelled by rain, we had everyone arrive at 11:00 AM for our Awards Banquet. Janet Shira and her team of Volunteers (Arlene Jabaut, Pat Llodra, Jan and Bill Sweet, Tom Grubb and Mark Gephart) did a fantastic job setting up all the tables and decorating the room. Stan Williamson hired DJ/MC Music/Cruisin Central Florida to entertain us with background music. Cindy did a great job with the summary board showing all of the shuffler’s scores in the tournament. The Awards table was set up with the four Master’s Trophies and the Tournament of Champions (TOC) Frank Wilson Special Award Plaques for the winner of the Amateur Ladies and Amateur Men’s division. Colt’s Pig Stand catered our event with barbeque pork, chicken, mac and cheese along with coleslaw and rolls. Fantastic deserts (so yummy) were supplied by our members. Tim Pergrem set up a TV with a slide show of shuffler events and winners. Photos were supplied by Randy Radke.

After everyone had a great meal with seconds, Joan Sanford (past President) called us to order and introduced our newly elected President, Janet Shira. Christine Giumarra gave the invocation. Joe Inga introduced the Northern District Board of Directors and the members of the Coronado/Mainland Club officers were introduced.

Joe began presenting the pins to each of the appropriate groups that had worked so hard to earn them. 12 Amateurs moved up to State Amateur and 9 State Amateurs moved up to Pro. He also presented each group of players from the Masters Tournament with their Masters Pins. Bonnie Radke presented the pins and awards for winners of the Tournament of Champions. The Frank Wilson Special Awards were given to the Men’s winning Amateur (Darryl Kenyon) and Ladies winning Amateur (Barb Allen). Pins for the winning Pro Ladies Division (Gail Howell) and Pro Men’s Division (John Giumarra) were also given out.

Next came our Hall of Fame (HOF) inductees. They had to earn a total of 200 points over their total tournament shuffleboard experience to be inducted. They were each presented with the HOF pins and a beautiful Red HOF Jacket.

Finally the Winners of each Master’s Division were presented with their trophies.
Katy Walker presented the Marion Lohbusch Amateur Ladies trophy to Marilyn VanLare.
Stan Williamson presented his Amateur Men’s trophy to Bob Augusto.
Christine Giumarra presented the Edna Triplett Pro Ladies trophy to Carol Helfer, Katy Walker and Christine Inga who all tied for the trophy.
Al Dronsfield presented his Pro Men’s trophy to Kyle Walker.

People were having their pictures taken with goofy shuffleboard expression props. Then our Master of Ceremonies and Club Crooner, Stan Williamson, took over the microphone and presented memento trophies to Bob Tager and Zak Wonson as well as a photo of an actual compilation representing 65 total points in one frame. He also entertained us and serenaded Gail Howell with songs from Tom Jones and “The Soul Train”. Everyone had a great time. Thanks to all who made it possible.

Masters Tournament Results

Well the end of the 2023-2024 Shuffleboard Season came to an end at the Coronado/Mainland Shuffleboard courts on March 21, 2024. The Masters Tournament features the top 8 Pro Men, Pro Ladies, Amateur Men and Amateur Ladies in a competition to see who is #One for the season. Zak Wonson was our director with the help of Tom Brown and Phil Wade. Cindy Wonson did a wonderful job with the charts and the cards so that the tournament was flawless. The New Smyrna Beach Mayor Fred Cleveland came to open the ceremonies along with our Zone 2 Commissioner Lisa Martin and Rob Salazar the Leisure Services Director. Christine Giumarra gave the blessing and Zak gave us the rules. Randy Radke was our photographer. We would like to thank all the many volunteers who made this tournament possible. All of the pushers did a fantastic job keeping the discs rolling and the support volunteers kept the courts beaded and the discs waxed. I can’t say enough about our Court Manager, Mike Beall. Everything was so well maintained. The only problem was the weather. Thanks to all our sponsors who have supported our club throughout the season.
