Explanation of a Modified Draw Tournament

Modified Draw Tournament

Leesburg Shuffleboard Club on  January 23, 2025

On the first day of the tournament men play men and women play women in a singles format of a 12 frame or 75 point game.  However, if the match goes to the third game because of a tie each player will get a hammer on both colors.  If there is still a tie then players will lag for the win.  These matches must be finished the first day.

On the second day the tournament changes to doubles with men and women drawing for partners.  The four main men winners draw for main women partners and the four men consolation winners draw for women partners.  This will be a 16 frame game or 75 points format.  Tie games will be played as above where each player gets a hammer on both colors.  If that game is tied then players will lag for the win.

Hopefully these rules Will explain so players will understand the format.

Carol Helfer.

Orange City Shuffleboard Courts

There’s a really good article in the Daytona Beach News Journal, September 4! It would be really sad to see them paved over.

The courts, built in 1944, along with the city’s original town hall, which was constructed in 1918, could be on the chopping block as Orange City explores the idea of adding more municipal parking to alleviate what some officials see as a shortage in town.

The site has historically served as a social gathering place and recreational facility benefiting all Orange City residents and enriching the district’s heritage, as it tells so many of the community’s stories.” NOT ONLY ORANGE CITY BUT THE NORTHERN DISTRICT. According to the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation: “Built in 1918, the building functioned as Orange City’s inaugural Town Hall, coinciding with the town’s first municipal votes by women. WE NEED TO PRESERVE OUR HISTORY.

Clermont Shuffleboard Club

Clermont Shuffleboard Club is in the Orlando Sentinel!! See the article by clicking on this link. Way to go Arthur “AJ”!!!

Arthur “AJ” Jordan puts a shuffleboard disc into play while his opponent, Ed Schwartz, plans his next move during a recent weekly gathering of the Clermont Shuffleboard Club at Kehlor Park Recreation Center in downtown Clermont. The Clermont Shuffleboard Club has attendance records that trace to 1933. Jordan, who serves as the club president, says he enjoys the competitive nature of the game and that “it’s just fun.” The group gathers biweekly on Tuesday and Friday, and plays in tournaments with other clubs around the area starting in October. “Cold or hot, it doesn’t matter; we’re here playing,” said Jordan, who extended an open invitation to anyone interested in playing the game to come out to try it with them.
