Enjoying retirement in New Smyrna Beach

Leesburg tournament

Leesburg is planning on having all three of our scheduled October tournaments.  We are scheduled to be closed by the city on November 7th.  We have a lawyer and have sued the city and we are fighting to keep our courts.

Our first tournament will be a tournament in honor of Dave Dean who passed away on 6/27/25.  We will have a short program about Dave before the tournament and many people have contributed to sponsor this tournament held on Oct 2nd.  Some of our former members are coming out of “retirement” to play in Dave’s honor and we hope many Northern district players will join us in this celebration of Dave.

We will also have a special tournament on October 30th which is the Bob Brandt Memorial Tournament.  This was started several years ago and the winners have their names added to the plaque.  Many are also helping to sponsor this special tournament.

Save Leesburg Courts

Please protect Leesburg courts! Please attend this meeting and let the City Commissioners know that they have the power to help homeless kids AND preserve the Leesburg Shuffleboard Courts and Club.

I have confirmed the change of meeting location (below) with the Leesburg City Clerk’s office.

The Fate of Leesburg Courts

Leesburg has one week left before the fate of our courts is decided by a vote of the mayor and four commissioners.  The meeting has been changed to the Venetian Center from the city building.  The address is 1Dozier Court in Leesburg and it begins at 5:00 with a Utility Impact Fee Workshop and that is followed by the regular City Commission meeting.  Anyone who can attend is most welcome.

A reporter is coming to the courts on Friday, August 2nd during the morning’s regular practice and people are free to share their thoughts.  We hope for a very good turnout.  Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.  We are working very hard to keep our courts.

Please put this on the website.

Thank you, Steve Clark

We should be giving the city phone number for any supporters who are willing to call city hall. The clerks office number is 352-728-9786 ext. 1150

Tell them to ask the clerk how to email the commissioners. 😉

We should have the phone ringing non-stop.  They need to know that we have support.

Emailing the city, I’m told by Commissioner Jay Connell, makes it part of their commissioner’s packet and PUBLIC RECORD.

We’re fighting hard to keep our courts and get proper funds to improve the facilities. They’ve stated already that they have $1 million for the Palmetto Street Sports Complex that we’re part of with another 1/2 million possible from general funds.

Thanks for all support that any of you can give.
