ND02 Any Doubles

Coronado-Mainland Shuffleboard club hosted the ND02 Doubles tournament on Oct 09. The weather was on and off rain but we had 15 teams show up for the challenge so we continued on

Mike Beall, Cindy & Zak Wonson, Jerry Jabaut, Joyce Tivy, Gail Kadar, Dennis Buelk and several others helped clean the courts and restart the games three times during the day

We stopped early due to heavier rain and prepared to come back on Friday morning to finish up. Sadly the rain did not let up and we finally had to delay the games until Saturday morning. Hopefully, we will be able to finish up on Saturday. Thanks to all our sponsors Berlin & Denys Insurance, Davis Bros HVAC, Hall Machine Works, NSB Physical Therapy, Springhill Suites by Marriot, State Farm Insurance, Stellar Foot & Ankle and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4250 as well as our club members  as well as our club members, Gail Kadar, Joyce Tivy, Arlene & Jerry Jabaut and Cindy & Zak Wonson.

Arlene Jabaut was our director with Rick Tallman, the ND KOR assisting with the new electronic registrations. See continued report below..

We all came back on October 10 and rain stopped the play once again. We had to sadly delay until Saturday morning. When we arrived on Saturday, the weather looked good, but play was interrupted several times during the day by more rain. Thanks again to Mike Beall and others who patiently volunteered to squeegee and rebead the courts. Here are the final results from ND02.

ND01 Leesburg

This is the beginning of our shuffling season. Here’s the people that showed up today for the Northern District men’s Doubles and ladies Doubles tournament at The Leesburg Shuffleboard courts. This tournament was the Dave Dean memorial. The day started off good before having a rain delay, then we were able finish the days matches. Players that won today will be playing tomorrow for final finish positions.

What a great group of shufflers. So sad the city is disrespectful of their elders and is shutting it down.

More info about Leesburg

Greetings again,

I’m hoping that you can help us promote these Leesburg tournaments that will be run by the Leesburg Shuffleboard Club (LSC) for the city as they have done for the last 40 years.

I’m sending this information out about what could be the last 3 shuffleboard tournaments to be held at the historic public Leesburg Shuffleboard courts.  All 3 of these tournaments will be men’s doubles and ladies’ doubles. There is currently $1,600 in prize money that has been donated for these tournaments (with still more coming in), how much to each tournament will be decided by the LSC board. There will be food available for each of these tournaments.

October 3rd and 4th is the Northern District (ND01). This is dedicated to Dave Dean who was a LSC member for 12 years. There will be a memorial table set up to honor Dave. Dave passed away June 2025 at the age of 89.

October 20th and 21st is the Florida Shuffleboard Pro Tournament P02a.

October 30th and 31st is the Northern District (ND05). This tournament is the Bob Brandt memorial that has been ongoing for several years.

Lakefront TV has this already in rotation.

Brief summary of what has happened in Leesburg concerning LSC:

As for the complaint that has been filed with the court by the LSC attorney.  It was served to the city one week ago and they have 20 days to reply to the complaint.

The city commissioners have made comments recently that LSC has picked this fight with the city. I would like to point out the facts:

In June LSC members requested that the city resurface the badly deteriorating court surfaces (they did get 3 bids in 2024 for this work).

In July the commissioners voted to start the process to donate the property to Forward Paths.

On August 25th they passed that vote to donate the property over to Forward Paths.

With that vote they are putting LSC out of business, so we had no choice but to fight to try and stay alive.

LSC has 83 members currently. We’re getting the list together showing how many veterans are members. This could have been a win – win situation but instead the city has put 2 non-profit entities against each other by allowing one to refuse vacant land and request the operating shuffleboard property instead.

We are hopeful that the court system will see this in our favor, but we are preparing with great sadness to vacate the property by the 11/7/25 deadline that the city has imposed.

Sincerely,

Rick Tallman

LSC member and Northern District Keeper of Records

Leesburg tournament

Leesburg is planning on having all three of our scheduled October tournaments.  We are scheduled to be closed by the city on November 7th.  We have a lawyer and have sued the city and we are fighting to keep our courts.

Our first tournament will be a tournament in honor of Dave Dean who passed away on 6/27/25.  We will have a short program about Dave before the tournament and many people have contributed to sponsor this tournament held on Oct 2nd.  Some of our former members are coming out of “retirement” to play in Dave’s honor and we hope many Northern district players will join us in this celebration of Dave.

We will also have a special tournament on October 30th which is the Bob Brandt Memorial Tournament.  This was started several years ago and the winners have their names added to the plaque.  Many are also helping to sponsor this special tournament.
