Arthur Jordan, President of the Clermont Shuffleboard Club found two interesting pictures of their club and and article he wanted me to share.
The Clermont Shuffleboard Club has attendance records dating back to 1933. While the exact opening date is unknown, the club has been active since at least that year. The club president mentioned they enjoy the competitive nature of shuffleboard, noting that it’s “just fun”, and the group gathers regularly for biweekly play on Tuesday and Friday, and plays in tournaments with other clubs around the area starting in October
Hope all is well in your part of the world. We are doing OK down here in Leesburg and would like to invite other club members to join us on Friday, May 23rd for a fun morning of shuffling followed by a pot luck luncheon. We’d like to see our shuffling friends before next tournament season.
We are having a fun event to play beginning at 9:00. We will play four games of 40 minutes each. The loser will pay the winner of the game $1.00. Players should bring four-dollar bills. All players will record their scores and the top scorer will win a gift card. Following play we will have our pot luck luncheon. The Leesburg club will have hot dogs for everyone.
Please have the players let me know if they can attend so we will have adequate hot dogs for everyone. My email is chelfer@specialtyhose.com or my phone number is 352-446-5575 to text or call. Hope we can have many friends join us.
It is with a sad heart we want to let everyone know that Doris Hanke passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday. God rest her soul! She was a very special lady.
She was a fantastic shuffleboard player who will be sorely missed. This photo is from a tournament in Nov 2022. She and Sharon Upson beat Stan and John Giumarra. She was inducted into the Northern District Hall of Fame in 2018 and was inducted into the International Shuffleboard Hall of Fame in 2023
Please note that there was an error in recording the results from the Masters Tournament. Apparently the matches between John Giumarra and Rex Galusha were recorded in reverse so the final results for the Pro Men in the Masters should read:
On March 27th, the Mid Florida Lakes Shuffleboard Club hosted the Northern District Masters Tournament. Bob Robinson was the Director. Thank you to all the volunteers/pushers who made the day complete. Congratulations to all the shufflers.
Well tomorrow Mid Florida Lakes will be hosting the Northern District Masters Tournament. The shufflers have worked all season to earn the right to play in this tournament. We wish the finalists all Good Luck. Have a great tournament.
This year we were saddened to hear that our friend David Nitchie had passed away. He was so close to receiving his Hall Of Fame Jacket that the board voted to award it to him posthumously. The following are pictures of the NDSA presenting Dave Nitchie’s daughter, Pam and son-in-law, Guy with his HOF Jacket. Also pictures of the Dave Nitchie plaques which will now be presented to the 1st place winners of the TOC for the Men’s/Ladies Pro Division presented by the Leesburg Shuffleboard Club. The other pictures are of Fred Newman and Patty Foster being given going away gifts for all the work they have done over the years for the Leesburg Shuffleboard Club as they will not be returning back to Florida.
The Leesburg Shuffleboard Club held the Tournament of Champions (TOC) this year. Bob Robinson and Tom Brown were our Directors and our sponsors were Joe and Chris Inga, Lyle and Katy Walker, Lee and Carol Helfer, David Nitchie and Family, and C.H. Evans Roofing and Contracting. Anyone who had placed in a tournament this year and qualifiers from past years could participate. Congratulations to all the shufflers. Frank Wilson Special Award
The Frank Wilson Special award is given to the Top Amateur Lady and the Top Amateur Man. Debbie Clark and Dave Strock received this award.
A new plaque, The Dave Nitchie Memorial Plaque was given to the top Pro Lady and Pro Man. Gail Howell and Al Dronsfield received this award.
